5 Amazing Facts About the Universe
The Universe”, to paraphrase the British biologist JBS Haldane, “is not stranger than we imagine. It is stranger than we can imagine.” In celebration of this joyful fact, here are 5 amazing facts about the universe.
1. Scientists have found a planet in the universe made of diamonds. It is a beautiful planet, but our galaxy is located in the Milky Way. This super Earth-type planet was discovered in 2004. The planet is scientifically known as 55 Cancri E and is located 40 light-years from Earth. The planet is about twice as big as our Earth and 8.63 times heavier than Earth. In just 18 hours, it rotates around its axis. However, its surface temperature is 4900 degrees Fahrenheit or 2700 degrees Celsius, much higher than the Earth.
The planet comprises two variants of carbon, diamond, and graphite. About one-third of the planet’s mass is made of pure diamonds. As a result, the Earth is so bright that it is easily seen in the constellations.
2. Olympus Mons is the largest volcano in the solar system. You may wonder where it is located again. No, it is not a volcano on Earth. Olympus Manas is found on Mars. The idea is that this volcano is still alive. It is about 700 km wide and 21 km high, three times higher than Mount Everest. Olympus Mons results from a large body of high-temperature liquid (basaltic lava) erupting from a volcano that gradually accumulated and increased its height.
3. When two pieces of the same type of metal come into contact with each other in space, they will be connected by forming a permanent bond. Any portion of metal exhibits this religion. This particular property of metal in the area is called Cold Welding. Because of this beautiful religion, whenever two similar pieces of metal come in contact, they merge. Cold welding is the process of solidification. Two smooth, clean metallic surfaces of the same type are joined together in an airless space. Since space is entirely close, this phenomenon occurs. It never happens in the world.
As a result, when two pieces of metal come into contact, air molecules remain between them. However, if you do this test by creating an airless environment, it will show Cold Welding.
4. One day on Venus is about 243 days on Earth. Yes, by the time Venus spends only one day on Earth, 243 days will have passed by then. But because the planet is so close to the sun, it takes very little time to orbit the sun. Interestingly, in just 225 days, the world could complete one entire cycle around the sun. It means Venus has only 225 days a year, less than a day.
5. Floating water exists in space. Scientists have discovered the existence of such a water vapor cloud 12 billion light-years away from the Earth. Although frozen water or water vapor has been found on different planets or satellites at other times, it is entirely different. This vast cloud of water vapor floats all over the universe. It is thought to contain 140 trillion times more water than Earth, probably the largest and most ancient collection of water in the universe ever discovered.
