Care and Protection of Pets during the Coronation
Coronavirus is a type of RNA virus. The word ‘corona’ comes from the English word ‘crown‘ or ‘crown.’ A layer of lipids surrounds this virus. This lining is surrounded by a thorn made of protein. The virus tries to reproduce by sticking to the receptors of animal cells. The ability of a virus to cause disease depends on the amount of virus that has entered the animal’s body as well as the physical ability of the animal i.e. immunity, age, etc. The dormancy of Covid-19 is 2-14 days.
But so far, scientists have not confirmed the origin of the virus. The Chinese health department claims that the coronavirus has spread from Wuhan’s wildlife market to humans. The Chinese Department of Livestock then collects samples from pigs, poultry, dogs and other animals and tests them. But that test found no evidence of the presence of coronavirus.
The genome sequence of the coronavirus that transmitted the virus to humans in Uhan is 87.99 percent similar to the genome sequence of the coronavirus found in bats. In contrast, the coronavirus found in domesticated animals is less than 66 percent. The virus is thought to have been transmitted from bats to humans through pangolins or wild boars. Later it spread very rapidly from person to person through cough, saliva or respiratory droplets. But no evidence of corona infection in humans has been found from any domesticated animal.
On April 5, 2020, the corona was first identified in the body of a tiger at the Bronx Zoo in New York. On 22 April, the presence of coronavirus was confirmed in the bodies of 6 more tigers and lions. Also, on April 22 in New York, information about the corona infection in pet cats was confirmed by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC. Investigations later revealed that the cat breeders and the people who looked after the tigers at the zoo were corona positive. The tiger and our domestic cat are members of the same family (Felidae). They are susceptible to coronavirus and may develop symptoms. Dogs are less sensitive than cats.
Around 470 million dogs and about 373 million cats are domesticated worldwide.
Those who keep pets have nothing to fear. Because coronavirus does not spread from cats or dogs, but since it spreads from human to animal, the following guidelines for pets provided by the CDC and the World Animal Health Organization must be followed.
- Do not allow pets to associate with outsiders or animals like other members of your family.
- If an animal is sick, separate it from other animals and people in the house.
- If the animal is sick, take care of it. At this time, wear a face mask and gloves and then wash your hands with soap.
- Regularly spray disinfectant on pet habitat.
- Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after feeding and cleaning up waste.
- According to the CDC, children under the age of five, people with poor immunity and people over the age of 65 are at risk of various diseases. So keep them away from pets. Pets do not carry the coronavirus, but they can carry other germs.
- Seek the help of an experienced veterinarian or veterinarian to treat sick animals. Since the government has restricted the movement, you can take telemedicine services.
Illegal wildlife trade threatens the biodiversity and balance of nature, public health, and animal species’ survival. The establishment and sale of wildlife farms in China are officially recognized. Because for hundreds of years, there have been various kinds of medicines made from the bones, heads, and limbs of wild animals. The WHO is working with its member countries to develop policies on the legal trade, transportation, farming, capture of wildlife in order to balance the environment, conserve biodiversity and protect public health. At the same time, policies are being formulated to exchange scientific knowledge among the member countries, monitor diseases, assess risks, storage of information, and use it as required. However, it is unnecessary to make a policy and we want its proper implementation.
Corona’s impact on social life as well as the wider economy. The government is trying to reassure the people by announcing various incentives and relief assistance. The combined efforts of so many people cannot go in vain.
