What were these Terrible Russian Tsars?
Evan IV is terrifying, nicknamed Vasilyevich (according to the French encyclopedia LaRos, 1903 edition) for his cruelty. About Evan Launches. And if the first translation of the word “terrible” is close to meaning, the second is at least a textual translation. And how was it actually?
Ivan Vasilyevich – Moscow Vasily III and the eldest son of Elena Glinsky’s Grand Duke. Rurik came from the family on the father and the mother – from the uncle. He was only 3 years old when his father died. And, naturally, he immediately became the ruler of Russia.
At the same time, the board of trustees really ruled. It was a veil, no power, covering the issues of temporary workers in power. Ivan was poisoned by his mother when he was 8 years old, leaving him completely alone against the Boers-rulers of Russia. Before he reached the age of 17, he was able to revolt against the board of trustees and finally seize power in the country.
Under Ivan the Terriers, Russia has doubled in size and population. The geopolitical situation around Russia has also changed – since the Tatar-Mongol invasion, Russia has been fenced off by a chain of Tatar “kingdoms” inhabited by nomads from the east and south, whose states are accustomed to plunder rather than “elite” earnings.
In this regard, the policy of the Khanate was simple: to find a secure part of the border with Russia (or to kill a detachment of Russian border guards guarding the border), to loot a village or a few villages in Russia, or even a small town (if the group is large enough). Everything is snatched away. What they did reach, took the whole thing and enslaved the Russians who had fallen into their hands – and returned to Kazan Khana and marched on the riverbank, until the Russians learned of the attack, gathered a powerful Rati and killed the guest. The Kazan Tatars did the same as the Tatars from the lower Volga, the Crimean Tatars. And such a strategy was very difficult to deal with in a bee swamp.
Tsar Ivan the Tervier did a great job of protecting Russia from invaders. From the invasion of Crimea, special grooves were strengthened, newly fortified cities were built on the dangerous side.
At the same time, the defense of Russian territories from the east was conducted differently – the Kazan and Astrakhan khanets were constantly plundering, defeating the Russian frontiers and leading to humility.
Thus, the chain of aggressive neighbors around Russia broke and began to spread to Siberia. Russia starts to grow in Siberia. Free Cossacks, scouts from new lands reached the Pacific Ocean.
Under Ivan the Terriers, the Russians had to fight a lot with the Crimean Tatars. There were successes and failures. Once the Crimean Khan was able to capture and plunder even Moscow, but in the end, his troops, the Russians were able to defeat. Although, since the powerful Ottoman Empire supported the Crimchaks, it was impossible to defeat them in those years completely, the Turkish sultan was, in a sense, “pushing the universe.” His forces and power were still increasing – after all, in 1683, his troops would besiege Vienna. After this war, the Turkish forces began to decline.
Then why did King Evan suddenly become so terrible? And the greater Russian feudal lords do not like strengthening the central authority. Was it only in Russia? No, all over Europe, the kings crushed their feudal rulers. Somewhere affection, somewhere forces, burning and destroying rebellious forts. With the inhabitants, of course… but we know from the ballads and annals how the stingy Catholic King pushed the world towards the lost vassal of one or the other. Sometimes they run away – from one King to another. At the same time, try not to find fault with the former boss – the current boss didn’t think about them.
And when the Orthodox aristocracy saw that his immense power was coming to an end, the Tsar restricted his right to execute, have mercy, and run politics separately from the state – it was enough for him to flee. What’s more, when the threat arose that Tsar might suddenly find out about his joint thinking with other Boers of the same type – how to overcome that rust: with poison, a random bullet, or a stiletto in the back… then the escape was all that was needed. Let the Turks be Turks, from Lithuania to the Poles… even the princes fled from Tsar Ivan When self-esteem did not allow him to become a Tsar’s nobleman – from an independent ruler of a country. The Tsar was enraged by the aristocracy, warmed by the new masters, and spoke of the tyranny of the Russian Tsar as many and colorful, and their answers were heard and recorded. After all, Catholicism has tried to spread wherever “non-Catholics” live. And there was no difference between anti-religion without faith or anti-religion with false faith.
And the very word “The Terrier” is just a brilliant PR move from the now unknown English Creek almost five hundred years ago. I think he was “Persian Panimai Mala Mala,” and it seemed to him (because of the accident) that translating the word “terrible” from Russian would be so accurate. And for more than 400 years in the West, there will be no historian or translator who can discover and correct random errors.
I don’t even want to talk about the “unfortunate” – who in Europe, at the same time the famous King and even a few centuries later executed and killed ten times as many people – was executed innocently by King Narpal. They did not regret it at all. No one thinks of blaming them.
