Story Time

Which caricature would entice Novada Ladoga?

Nowadays, when people are engrossed in all kinds of tourist attractions, it is probably difficult to find an attractive place that will surprise or at least attract the curiosity of travelers, whose luggage also has great parks and mysterious pyramids and lavender fields and relaxation. There is still such a place and it is in northwestern Russia, more precisely – east of the Leningrad region. This is the city of New Ladoga.

According to the senses of those who visited it, this place, where the Volkhov flowed into Ladoga, is a special power. What is the source of this feeling? Probably old churches and monasteries, numerous in relatively small parts of the land. Maybe it’s instead of the faces of Ladoga and Ladoga women, or rather “faces” that amaze the sea with the beauty of a particular north, perhaps seen only in icons. Maybe the thing is the special flow of time in this amazing place. If you go to St. Nicholas Cathedral and climb the spiral staircase to the observation deck, where the icon of St. Nicholas the Wonder Worker is, and from there look at Ladoga water – time “melts.” You will find it by checking your watch on a landing. Perhaps the time of Navaya Ladoga is drawn into a large funnel, with Ladoga at its center.

The history of history

Peter the Great founded New Ladoga in 1704. He admired Volkhov’s face, driving to the shipyard. He visited the monastery of St. Nicholas Medvedsky, which according to history, dates back to 1500. In 1585, the monastery was destroyed by the German Knights. Peter, I ordered the clist to be closed with a mortar, their remains still alive today. Later, across the Volkhov River, a shipyard appeared opposite the monastery, where six handsome frigates were built.

Ladoga is a turbulent lake, causing a lot of shipping problems. Peter, I heard that every third barge sinks decided to dig a canal between Volkhov and Never. The name of the channel is Petrovsky. In 1719, Tsar Peter loaded the soil with the first three carts. However, the construction was delayed and completed only in 1731.

This waterway does not work, but the only surviving sites can be found in Nova Ladoga.

Prosperous city

New Ladoga has always been a city of merchants. The turnover at the New Ladoga Fair was in the millions.

Merchants built the center with high-quality two-story houses for this period. They built two gymnasiums, Gustini Dover, and a church. Merchant buildings still standing It is noteworthy that the Novoladuz girl’s gymnasium graduates were fluent in three European languages.

This place also commemorates the military genius, Commander A. Suverov. The city was fortified with buildings that were barracks for the Suzdal Regiment. Their regiment was formed after the Northern War. In 1663-1763-169699, Alexander Vasilyevich instructed Suzdal.

The Gustini Dover, designed in the style of St. Petersburg, survives to this day. It can be seen on Karl Marx Avenue, 25-25. Once you find the Gustini Dover, you will once again enter the game of time and historical era.

So among the signs of his shops, you will find the word “promotional” lost hereafter in the Soviet era. And the opening of the Kirv monument in the adjoining square, which in itself refers to recent but forgotten history, was initially supported by the monument of Tsar Liberator Alexander II.

Fishing

New Ladoga used to fish. There is still such a historical joke among Ladoga residents.

A New Ladoga resident decides to grab a three-pound sturgeon and bring it to the king. The fishermen took Sturgeon to St. Petersburg. The miraculous fish were then thrown into a huge pelvis and delivered to the living palace. The emperor liked the gift, and in return, he sent the fisherman a gold watch from the Bure factory.

Now, suppose you drive just 3 kilometers along the P21 Highway to Staray Ladoga. In that case, you can head to the village of Yusco, where the store specializes in local fish with the explicit name of “fish”: smoked bream dried roach and other fresh and smoked fish, And also caviar.

New Ladoga during the war

During the siege of Leningrad, starving children were brought from the besieged city to New Ladoga. There was an eviction point in Ladoga. Many children, unfortunately, could not even get to the evacuation center – they were just dying in the car.

The inhabitants of the city provided the road of life at that time. The Soviet army made several attempts to break the blockade. However, this did not succeed as the German army took a very advantageous position in the Sinyavinsky wetlands, which complicated the offensive and resulted in numerous casualties.

The memory of this sad day has become immortal in the memorial. The exhibits include the ships of the then Ladoga Flotilla: Minesweeper Ship-100, an old Finnish ship adapted from the togboat “Kharkov.”

Amazing picture

On the city’s main street, Karl Marx Avenue, Orthodox churches have brought us to a very different situation: the Nativity Cathedral, which is two years older than the city, the Clement Church of 1741-1743. And the Church of the Heavens.

Above the entrance to the Church of the Savior, Not Made by Hands, is an amazing image of a dove that could not be destroyed in the years of destruction, each time the image reappeared. Perhaps New Ladoga has always been a place for miracles in life.
